1. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing when you train.
2. Your dog should have fasted 4 hours prior to your training session.
3. Beginner sessions should not be longer than fifteen minutes
4. If you are getting angry at your dog and not having fun, stop the lesson.
5. Proper training equipment is a must. This means a proper fitting collar and the high quality leather leashes made by trainers. Do Not run out and buy pet store products. They are clueless about what is needed.
6. Don't think you'll get training instruction from a pet store and never buy a dog from a pet store.
7. Do not train your dog if it is sick or has had recent surgery.
8. Never, ever hit your dog. ( unless it is attacking you )
9. Proper voice inflection commands authority, direction and develops great communication between you and your dog.
10. The three keys of success are timing, consistency and reinforcement.
11. Start training your dog at 6 weeks of age. Basic training is usually completed within 2 months.
12. Training your dog is not an option but a requirement. There is no such thing as a bad dog in the beginning; they become bad dogs because of bad dog owners.
